Is it just me or does anyone else think it’s pathetic that the only way to get the Federal government to defend our borders against illegal immigration is for STATES to enforce the Federal laws our government won’t? After years of watching crime escalate on the border many states have tired of endless calls for action from those in Washington. Along comes a Governor worth her weight in salt who says enough and takes the only step available to her. Governor Brewer should be hailed as a Leader on the issue of illegal immigration. She is certainly not racist as many on the left are trying to brand her and anyone else in support of the new AZ law.

On my twitter page I noted that liberals such as Al Sharpton have used the Race card so often it’s now faded from Black to Brown.  Clearly, this is NOT a question of race but a question of legal versus illegal. There are thousands of foreigners who come to the US seeking to become citizens each year and they do so legally. All we are asking is that those in Mexico follow the path that is legally required for them to become productive law abiding citizens. I mean, doesn’t the expression “Law Abiding Citizen” have a place in America anymore? Since when do we allow cheaters to cut to the front of the line without any consequences for their behavior? Many would argue that these illegal immigrants aren’t criminals but mere men and women seeking a better life for their families. However, this ignores one major point of fact, by violating our border laws they have broken the law and are therefore by definition, “Criminals”.

I realize that many on the left especially, will decry this categorizing of illegal immigrants as criminal as more evidence of racism. That tactic is simply ill informed and lacking in substance. How can the left ignore the situation in Juarez, MX which neighbors El Paso, TX? They have had estimates of 400 to 5000 women disappear and end up murdered since 1993. To date these murders and kidnappings have gone unsolved. Many Mexican residents of Juarez believe it is unsolved because their own police officers are behind the murders. How’s that for safety? Next since 2006 there have been over 19,000 murders in the so called “Drug War” That is significantly more than all deaths from all nations involved in both the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, and the 9/11 attacks. The most shocking thing about that number is that the Mexican government says the high number of deaths shows they are making progress?! Well if that’s progress I hope they keep that progress in Mexico and it doesn’t spill into the USA. We have enough to handle without adding that sort of progress to our menu.

As a home owner and former resident of El Paso, TX I can tell you I’m glad to be able to say “Former” and not current resident. I visited Juarez on three different occasions and have had numerous friends travel there as a part of their normal routine. Those friends no longer make those routine trips and I haven’t been back into Juarez since 2007 and have no immediate or future plans to ever return. So, I am 100% behind the state of AZ in their efforts to protect the citizens of their state and our nation from violence and crime in general.

The federal government under both Republican and Democratic control has passed the buck of immigration reform for far too long. Political expediency has come at a high cost for those living along the border and for our nation as a whole since illegal immigration leads to job loss among Americans seeking unemployment, especially in the construction industry. If the government would at least truly penalize companies who hire illegal’s I think it would be a step in the right direction. Many may not agree with the steps taken by AZ and it’s Governor Brewer..but a step forward is better than standing idly by as illegal immigrants and potentially violent extremist pour into our country through the porous border with Mexico. We’ve tried standing by and doing nothing for twenty years..let’s give AZ’s radical law a chance!
